Article 1 - Definition of the Term Refugee

A. Definition

For the 1 of the present Convention, the term refugee shall apply to any person who owing to well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality.

B. Cessation Clauses

This Convention shall cease to apply to any person who has voluntarily re-availed 2 of the protection of the country of his nationality.

C. Third part

For the purposes of the present Convention, the term refugee shall apply to any person who owing to well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality.
